Ganryu Hanakiri (花桐 丸竜, Hanakiri Ganryū) is one of the youngest 2nd lieutenants in the imperial army involved in the spirit affairs. He is paired with Bonbori and Hozuki, and is the only one who can tell the two apart even when they try to confuse him.
Personality[]
Ganryu is a shy individual, who has a high level of inteligence being the only one who can tell apart the twins Bonbori and Hozuki. Ganryu doesn't like to take action, but when he has to he will. He tends to not know a lot about girls, sometimes making inappropriate comments with no malice. He has a bit of a Napoleon Complex.
Abilities[]
Ganryu can't fight as well as Agemaki and Riken, but he is noted to have very high intelligence, which is why he was able to become a lieutenant. Ganryu is the only one who can tell the twins apart from each other due to their voices being different.
Relationships[]
Bonbori & Hozuki[]
Ganryu, Hozuki and Bonbori immediately got along when they met each other, each twin clinging to him. Ganryu is shown to care a lot about the twins as much as the twins care for him, in one of the episodes Bonbori even attempting to give her life to protect him, while Hozuki held him to shield him from the danger. Ganryu was first shown to be unable to control his emotions after the battle, he even raised his voice at the two, there the two telling him about their past which meant they trusted each other a lot.
Agemaki[]
Ganryu and Agemaki don't talk as much in the series but there are special occasions when Agemaki fails to talk to Zakuro, and Ganryu quickly tells Agemaki what he said was wrong and he should try to fix it. Ganryu is a little brother of sorts to Agemaki.
Etymology[]
- The name Ganryu means "round, circle, pills, purity, suffix for ship names, complete" (丸) (gan) and "dragon" (竜) (ryu).
- Ganryu's surname Hanakiri means "flower, blossom" (花) (hana) and "paulownia" (桐) (kiri).
